A way of Escape!

From the Baptist Bread devotion March 17:

1 Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

One of the most frequently made mistakes by the believer facing trials is that a way to escape always means either removing the trial or removing the believer from the trial.  Actually, the escape is a matter of one’s perspective.  The word allows for either a literal or metaphorical usage. In 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, we observe that the escape may be enablement. If one reads the entire context of 1 Corinthians 10, it becomes clear that one perspective (God’s) allows for remaining in the trial victoriously by trusting the Lord.

It is the relying upon the grace of God in the trials He allows that moves us up to the next level of reliance upon His grace. The phrase that ye are able indicates that God moves us in and out of difficulties based upon His omniscience concerning us, not upon what we know about ourselves.

That is where faith comes in.  I must learn to trust His oversight and judgment rather than to murmur about what He allows.  His grace enables me to remain in the trial, yet find an escape hatch from its pressure through faith in His promise.
