Is God relevant in our postmodern culture?

  • Postmodern defined: Postmodernism is an intellectual stance or mode of discourse defined by an attitude of skepticism toward what it describes as the grand narratives and ideologies of modernism, as well as opposition to epistemic certainty and the stability of meaning.
  • God Transends all aspects of creation, as He is the creator of all that we know to be.
    • John 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2)  The same was in the beginning with God.  (3)  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”
    • Colossians 1:16-17, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (17)  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
  • As understood by logic, and the Word of God, the Creator and Sustainer, is higher intellectually and more relevant than the creation itself. As in, the watch designer is of higher importance and intelligence than the watch itself.
    • To say that God is no longer relevant in society is to reject God as the Creator and Sustainer of our world and all things contained therein.
      • The truth, as observed and recorded in the Bible, testifies that God is the most relevant in all of creation, that He changes not, and is the Creator.
        • Malachi 3:6, “For I am the LORD, I change not;…”
        • Colossians 1:16-17, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (17)  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
      • If God was not in full control of His creation from the beginning, He would have to change and make adjustments along the way. But the Scriptures teach that He knew the end from the beginning at Creation, and as such, He made allowance for all things throughout the planned timeframe of His creation.  As such, He changes not due to times and seasons. Thus, God is just as relevant today, as He always has been, and always will be.
      • This is why He is called the great “I am”.
        • Exodus 3:14, “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”
          • He “am” because He exists outside of our time reference, and is eternal in every aspect of the word. God am, because no matter the timeframe and place, He am there.
        • Yes, God is relevant today, and desires to know you personally through salvation in Jesus Christ.
